Apple and Mac for Real Estate? MLS? Max Pigman from Realtor.com explains
Many real estate agents are under the impression that Apple products like the Mac and iPhone are not options to a Realtor who need access to things like the MLS and Top Producer, both which were built to run on a PC platform. Technologist, national speaker and Realtor.com VP Max Pigman, an avid Mac user and advocate, explains how these tools DO WORK on a Mac right now and why he made the switch! Enjoy.

Once you go Mac you never go back!!! I have been using a MacBook for more than a year as well with Paralells and I will NEVER go back to PC. Love it!!!
Thanks for doing a story on how RE professionals can make Macs work for them. I’ve become a devoted Mac user and will probably never go back to Windows. I use VMware Fusion to toggle back and forth between the two platforms and it works well too.
What is it about Macs that I am missing? I am a PC user and I’m surviving. Is there something specific that a Mac can do that a PC can’t? I read and hear people saying they still run windows and pc programs on MACs, which is just an indication to me that running PC is enough for me. Am I wrong? I need specifics!
The one and only problem that I’ve found with having a Mac is that GE Supra Key’s do not work in the Windows environment on Mac. I’ve got VM Fusion and my GE Supra Key cradle NEVER gets detected which will not allow me to sync the device! We use the Supra keys a lot in the Boston area and this is a MAJOR problem for me. Also, the Supra keys can only be used with a hard wired analog phone line. Archaic technology – which makes things quite difficult. Anyone else experience this problem???
I’ve been using a mac in my real estate biz for 4 years; I also use Paralells when I have to although I look forward to the day when it’s no longer needed. No trouble with anything except Top Producer. 99% of it runs fine however, I cannot display their templates such as letters, email, etc. I still use it but wish they would get their act together so their product can be fully utilized by everyone. Love my mac and will never go back to any microsoft/windows/pc.
Attended Max’s excellent presentation at KW Family Reunion last week and was thrilled to see that a VP at Top Producer was using a mac. Looking forward to the day that I no longer need to run Parallels.
RobinI feel your pain as I too am in the Boston area with a Supra Key.I switched to a iMac in December and use VM Fusion Ware and Windows 7. Same issue – Supra Key just cannot be seen.My solution: My trusty Lenovo laptop hosts the Supra Key and also functions as a platform for scanning documents from the multi-function printer. Our MLS and State Associations are a bit behind the times as there are newer and more up to date Supra products. The iMac is great and I will never go back. Easy to use and just a beautiful user interface and experience.

Can’t agree more. From someone who had to support the Windows environment for major financial institutions, the first thing I did when I retired was ditch Windows and go MAC. It pains me to go back to Windows just for the sake of MLS. Now I am in Real Estate I truly hope some day soon, they will step out of the dark ages and start supporting todays platform agnostic browsers.
