Advanced Photo Editing Tool For Realtors

In some of our previous posts about taking better photos and our photo editing series we went over some of the basics for enhancing our images.  Now, I want to introduce you to a more advanced program called Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

This is a program that I use religiously to edit and refine almost all of my images.  In the video below I am going to cover one of its 50+ photo editing filters and how to quickly and easily get fantastic results for your real estate pics.  The graduated filter is phenomenal for adding any color sky you want to your images.  One caveat, you need to have Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture before you can add this tool on to your workflow.  If you do use any of these systems, Nik has a 30 day free trial that you can use without having to put in a credit card.

Nik Color Efex 4 is form the same company that makes Snapseed for your mobile device!

Of Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture, is there one of these you prefer, and why?

I use Aperture the most because of a few effects that are harder for me to recreate in Lightroom and the workflow, which I find easier. However, deep down I do think that Lightroom is better. Photoshop is only opened when I need to make major changes to an image…less than 10% of the time.

Great video. I’ve been strongly considering using this with Aperture and this video is helpful. Any thoughts on if the “full” edition with all 55 filters would be helpful to have if dealing primarily with real estate photos?

John, I have the full edition and have never looked back! I am not sure of the differences in filters between the options.

Nice video Steve. What are your thoughts on easy to use programs to touch up video taken of a property?

Charlotte – I don’t think any video editing programs are easy LOL. Final Cut Pro X is pretty awesome, but there is a learning curve for sure.

This appears to be cool. But is it free or worth a fortune?

I can see how that would be a timesaver. I can add a blue sky or gradations with Photoshop Elements 10 using the special effects brush, but this is certainly quicker and easier. Thank you for sharing.

Pretty sweet. I’m able to do some cool things with Lightroom, looks like you can do things much faster and easier! I’m going to have to give it a shot.

I have been using Nik Color Efex 4 with Lightroom since last year for my listings on I have noticed a marked difference in the interest generated by properties whose photos are more appealing. Lightroom is roomie’s favorite; he’s a pro photog. I can access Lightroom and all my photos from a remote location. Not sure about the others. Lightroom is Adobe, just like Photoshop, by the way.
