How To: Update a Facebook Business Page When You Share

First of all thank you.  The fact that you are reading this means you are interested in updating your Facebook business page and not your personal profile when it comes to real estate and business focused information you find on the internet.  Unfortunately, Facebook for who knows what reason, does not make it very easy to update a Facebook business page when you are browsing the web, find something interesting and hit their universal share button.  Would seem to me that a simple drop down could appear and allow you to select your profile or any pages you admin at that point, but they don’t so thus the following how to post on updating your Facebook business page directly.  Where I am from we call the following a work around!

Step One: If you do not have HootSuite you will need to download it now.  It is free and awesome  tool that I do not feel is optional for those who want to leverage social networking to the fullest.HootSuite Logo I use it every single day on my Mac Book Pro (PC version available don’t worry), iPad and iPhone.  I will do a full review of HootSuite at some point as it completely deserves it but for now just download it so we can move on.  Oh yeah, don’t worry if this all seems like a lot just to update your Facebook business page directly.  The full set up will take you less than 5 minutes and once done you can Facebook business page share away!

Step Two: Add your facebook Page to your profile.  Hard to miss as HootSuite will prompt you to add your social networks as soon as you log in for the first time.Facebook Business Page You will also notice you can add your Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook Profile, etc…  Again I will do a full review but for the purpose of this post we focusing on the Facebook business page option specifically.

Step Three: Click on the Owl in the top left corner of your dashboard and when the drop down menu appears select “Apps and Plugins”.  You will then see an image appear that says “Get HootSuite Hootlet”.Hootlet Click and hold down on the Owl that appears there, drag him into your browser bar and release.  HootSuite makes this fairly simple to pull off and supports Safari, Firefox, Chrome and yes, even Internet Explorer.  Once you have done this correctly you will see either the word Hootlet or an icon of an owl in your browser bar.

Step Four: You are now ready to share any website, blog post or URL directly to your Facebook business page or any of the other social networks you may have added to HootSuite at this point.  One of my favorite things about HootSuite is that I can select multiple places to update at the same time when appropriate (use with extreme caution, very rarely appropriate BTW).  Anytime you want to share something from this point forward on your Facebook business page simply press the Hootlet button that you added to your browser.Sharing Using HootSuite Hootlet A box will pop up that will ask which social network you would like to share this post with (the pop up Facebook should just have themselves of course).  You can add your own commentary (highly recommend) and HootSuite even shows you an image preview just like when you are in the main Facebook.com site itself!

I hope you have found this tutorial extremely useful as I know that I have been in love with HootSuite from the day that I downloaded it (don’t tell my wife).  If you have any questions or just want to say thanks please do so now in the comments below.

Is Hootsuite like Tweetdeck? Are they similar applications?

Thank you, this is very helpful. I don’t see why Facebook wants to limit business pages so much.

I’ve gone back and forth between Hootsuite and Tweetdeck. Hootsuite seems to have more features or maybe they’re just easier to find. Clearly you recommend Hootsuite. I am just hearing about Hootlet for the first time today. Thank you very much for this great tutorial!
