Cursing at Your Cell Phone???

According to Google and their new website, How to Go Mo, 23% of you do!

Why and when does the profanity ensue?  When someone hits your website and it’s not optimized for a smooth mobile experience.

How to Go Mo Graphic

While at Agent Reboot this week (thanks Chris!), I learned about a new site that will not only help you define what makes a good mobile website, but will also allow you to test yours for free.  If your site is not optimized properly for a mobile device, Google may not be pushing it out on their search engine results page when someone is searching on their mobile.  Why does it matter you ask?  Check out this graphic from their site.

Since your site is your home on the web, these statistics should carry a lot of weight with you.  Most agents are going to get a professional to help them with their website needs, but I still wanted to provide a few of the most important things to consider when optimizing your site.

  • Time to Load
  • Simplified Navigation
  • Thumb Friendly
  • Font Size and Visability
  • Mobile Site Redirects (automatically sends a mobile user to the optimized site)

Of course I had to see where Tech Savvy Agent ranked on my flight home….not bad, but still a little room for improvement.

Great post! Because of the large increase in mobile devices, it only makes sense to have your site accommodate those clients. My site was a 3 out of 5 so I have a couple things to work on. Thanks for sharing that awesome site.

    Not too bad though Allison!

  3. Check all three of mine. WP Touch working pretty well, need to add the clickable phone number on all though.

    Loading time not great either

  4. Excellent tool and always good to check how the consumer sees you. Sometimes we get too caught up in what it looks like from our side, we forget to step outside and look from the consumer’s point of view.

  5. Great post, thanks Steve! I got a 4 out of 5 for load time for my http://www.LivingDenver.com site. I had http://www.5280inDesign.com build my site and love them! Every website of theirs is built on WordPress and it was a great deal at that! I will have to have thank them again too! :)

Wow. Thanks for directing me to the “test your site” function.

Hey, I wanted to tell you about a cool new technology for real estate professionals. gmob makes it possible to use your mobile phone number for your email address. It’s simple, the gmob address then forwards to your current email provider. It’s free, easy, and a great way to share contact information in a hurry.

  7. Hi Steve, Thanks for the handy tip! I scored a 5 out of 5 for my real estate site http://www.lakeandcityhomes.com however the tool indicated the site was loading in 8 seconds as opposed to the recommended 5 secs or less. No clue why but I’ll be looking into that. Thanks again!

  8. In short, by 2015 everybody will be using a device that is not a cell phone nor a laptop but has the capabilities both of that gadgets that we have today. Innovation really change the way we live.

  9. You need to be very careful implementing a mobile site. I don’t know how many times I have gone to a website on my phone and been very angry when I couldn’t get to the regular website.

I am happy that my website is getting 4/5.

    Thank you Steve,
Sharing your ideas is very big help in optimizing our sites to be one of the best and as cool accessible to our customers. It says here that http://buyzell.com/ scored 5 out of 6
    on the mobile-friendliness scale.
I would recommend this application to my friends too.
