Do You See What I See?
If you are at all like me you obsess with making your blog or website better on a daily (if not hourly/minutely) basis. I wanted to share an app that will allow you guys to take a step back and digest what would be arguably more important than your own opinion, the opinion of others.
Clue App is a simple to use social app that allows others to give you feedback on what they remember when they visit your website. It flashes your site for 5 seconds and then asks them to provide the 5 things they remember. Getting people to participate is a breeze as they allow for sharing of the test on Facebook and Twitter with one click. It then puts that data into a report so that you can start to see trends including the good, the bad and the ugly.
You are probably friends with a lot of Realtors and business owners on Facebook. Have you ever seen even one of them ask their sphere what THEY think about their website or blog? What could be better? Most are afraid of the feedback they will get (the fear of the opinions of others as Tom Ferry would say). If that is the case you are probably out of the game anyways.
The ability to crowd-source for free using social media is a huge deal.
If I told you 10 years ago that I was going to collect data from 100′s of people in your geographical location about your marketing and give you their feedback as to what they said you would have had to pay handsomely. Today it takes about 2 clicks and is free.
Do you see what I see? Probably not and that is a good thing. You can give Clue App a test drive here and feel free to post the link it creates on our Facebook wall and I will give as many of you as I can feedback. Special thanks to Darin Persinger of Productivity Junkies for turing me onto this cool, free app.

I love the idea. Unfortunately, when I tried it for 3 of my pages (my home page, my blog and another page) the screenshot they grabbed didn’t pull all of the elements of my site. On the home page it didn’t pull the header area and on the other pages it didn’t pull the colored background for the nav bar. Without these things, the site has items that don’t show up. Oh well.
Makes me feel like I’m on the right path that I was willing to post this test on FB and Twitter to get honest feedback. Sometimes you don’t know how you will react to something until you really have the opportunity to chose.
Sounds interesting. I’ll know more in 48 hours! Here is my Clue link if anyone here wants to try it out http://www.clueapp.com/24230
OK, I need to get some new posts up with new photos. The only thing I could honestly say that I remembered about my OWN SITE as it looks at this moment, is, wait for it…..flowers.
And special thanks to Jbern for turning me on to it.
Just took your test Cal…Now all I can think about are crab cakes
Cool app! Will give this a try on one of my sites.
Chris,
As usual, great and informative post! Now do you think we need to start sending people the link to this via facebook, twitter, or email? Just wondering what would be the best way to get the feedback and make the most use out of the app.
Yes Ray! I would do an FB update to my friends and ask for their honest feedback.
I wish it had more specific questions about the site and using it rather than just what they remembered. Remembering an image rather than usefulness doesn’t help me much. Will be neat to see the results though. It’s pretty easy to tell what it will be… Here’s mine… http://www.clueapp.com/24371
There are apps for that as well they are called Google Analytics!
Excellent tech tip and eye opener Chris! I knew “Above the Fold Matters” but this 5 second quiz REALLY drives home the point. Good Find!
for some reason it isn’t working on my WP site -says Whoa check your URL. I double, triple checked and I typed it correctly.
Thanks so much for this handy tip. I blogged about it and hopefully my subscribers will help out and “vote” (had to get that in there to support election day) Please check mine out and help me make sure you see what I see! Thanks http://su.pr/1cD2aa
Great Tip I will try it.

Nice tip thanks
For those of you who are unhappy with ClueApp’s poor site rendering, not being able to ask specific questions and not being able to grab your website; try the app they “borrowed” their idea from.
http://fivesecondtest.com has been around for around 2 years now. We’ve had over a quarter million tests done. Ours is made by two guys, then it was copied by faceless men with a lot of money.
Be nice Alan it works better.
