How to make a triple thread impact on Facebook
Oh yeah, now here’s where the fun begins! We aren’t talking about just ANY customization here on Facebook. We’re talking about the TRIPLE THREAD!
We’ve talked about the landing tab on your Facebook Business Page and how your brand can make a huge difference when used correctly. We’ve also talked about your professional appearance and first impressions on THE most visited site in the world. These are still very legitimate and something that we promote regularly during both our webinars and blog updates.
But what about after your Facebook Business Page visitors initial visit. Are you making that impression last? There are two more ways to not only make an impact, but to be both top of mind and generating on-going leads!
The first is the sidebar on your Facebook Page – You know, where you can add your image (PLEASE, NOT YOUR FACE!!)… This sidebar is visible no matter what tab your visitors click on – it’s always there. What a perfect opportunity to provide an opportunity to GIVE to your audience (and gain potential leads).
In our brand new sidebar image we have included our logo, our website address, our twitter link and also a bold call to action. Take a look at our before and after and see which one grabs your attention the most:
But it doesn’t stop there!
If you take a look at our avatar on our Facebook wall, you’ll see our logo prominently displayed too. Remember, this doesn’t just show on OUR Facebook wall, but it shows on everyone’s wall that has “Like”‘d us. Is it better to have an image of a house, an image of your face or a definitive representation of your business on all your “Like”ers walls (it was so much easier to say “Fans” wasn’t it!?)?

So, here’s how it works. Create an image (within Photoshop, Illustrator, Paint, or whatever you have) and make the width of it 200 px. You can make the length of it as long as you want, but I like to have it so that your information box is also showing underneath too (this makes the length about 530 px).
You then upload it by clicking on the image you currently have there and choose “upload picture”. Choose your file and click upload. You’ve now changed your sidebar image!
To make your avatar show correctly, you’ll need to position your logo (or whatever definitive representation of your business you want to have showing) within your sidebar correctly too. This may take a little trial and error, but if you look at ours you’ll see where it is positioned and use that as a guide.
We really believe this is an excellent way to promote your presence on Facebook to the max! Have some fun with it and think outside the box! Let us know in the comments below if you have a custom sidebar and/or avatar that we can see too.

I agree with you that customizing your sidebar/ profile image is important when it comes to taking advantage of the Facebook business page. I found a contractor on Odesk who made my image for me at a very reasonable cost.
You can see it here http:www.facebook.com/iciclecreekrealestate
Hey Chris – I have a custom facebook banner as well. I don’t agree about not using your image/picture though. I think you should constantly remind people about who they are working with. People want to know. Check mine out and let me know what you think. Jason.

Do you think its that big of a deal?
I have had a custom one for a while as well – think I will change it up and add a call to action to it.

Great tips Chris! I like the call to action in the sidebar.
HUGE Thank YOU! Super easy instructions that actually work. Thanks again. I enjoy your posts.
This is what we did as a first pass for the Keller Williams Realty Greater Nassau landing page and side panel:

Suzanne,
Thanks, as always, for the great tips and step by step plan to execute – now you’ve added something great to my “to do” list!
I’ve created several images for different people and companies. I believe the maximum for the profile pic is 200px wide and 600px high.
One profile pic I created for a page is here: http://www.facebook.com/Franspiration
Notice the top calls out to like the page and bottom calls out to suggest to friends. I used Facebook’s background color to make the Like request look like it is part of Facebook’s official background.
You can also maximize the use of the 5 most recently tagged photos on your personal profile. I like to call this your banner. I create an image to span across all 5 photos, often with the person’s photo, link to their site, and slogan. Great way to bring people to your site via your personal profile as well.
If anyone needs help, let me know.
man, definitely need to update mine. Things are just getting better and better on FB!
I tried my hand at it!
