Top 5 Facebook SEO Strategies For Real Estate Agents
Over the past year, Facebook Pages have increasingly become more definitive as a key role in Realtors online marketing strategies, and in doing so, the need to understand how to make them work for your business has respectively grown too. To just simply have a business (Fan) page on Facebook is not cutting it anymore; learning how to maximize on capturing as many of the hundreds of millions of eyeballs that are viewing Facebook every minute of every day is (or at least should be) paramount.
By now you probably know that your Fan Page on Facebook is indexed by the search engines, whereas your profile or group pages are not. So with that in mind, within today’s article we’ll get into the nitty gritty of our Top 5 Facebook SEO strategies for Real Estate Agents:
1. Choose Your Page Name Carefully!
This is done when you first set up your Fan Page, so it may be a little late for some (maybe most) of you… however, if you are in the midst of starting a new custom Facebook Fan Page, then take a look at your Keyword Phrases that you are using within your online marketing and choose from those words. If you have longtail keyword phrases, like “Miami beach waterfront condos for sale” then I would consider using one that is not so spammy – your fans will less likely share your page with their friends and will be more likely to hide your updates from their News Feed.

2. Choose your Facebook Username Wisely!
Your username is the custom url that you get to “own” once you have 25 or more Fans of your Fan Page. By going to www.facebook.com/username, you can choose a unique url for your fan page and promote its more visually appealing and SEO dense attributes within both your online and offline marketing. Your custom url is one of the most important aspects of SEO strategies for Realtors on Facebook – so choose wisely! And once you choose it, you can NEVER change it!
3. Take FULL Advantage of the “About” Box!
Here’s one of the few places that Facebook allows you to add keyword-rich text where it really matters! Take a look at your “About” box on your Fan Page and see what it says – does it have any of your keywords included? If not, now’s the time to make some changes. There is a 250 character limit to this space, so again, choose your words carefully! The nice thing about this portion of your Fan Page, is that it can be changed if need be at a later date (like today!).
4. Info Tab To The Rescue!
An excellent way to increase your content score and SEO ranking on your Facebook Fan Page is to include as much information, keyword rich content and links to your additional sites as you can within your Info tab. Facebook has given each Fan Page this tab, which along with your Wall tab, cannot be moved or removed. When creating a Real Estate / Local Business Fan Page, you will be given Basic Information and Detailed Information sections to complete. The Basic Information is great for local search results, so include your information here, and the Detailed Information allows you to add your keyword-rich content.
5. Get Them Interacted!
Our 5th strategy is Facebook’s interaction phenomenon. Recently we did a post about how Facebook’s “likes” were directly competing against the way in which Google has been using “links” for SEO ranking. So, when taking this into consideration, you must continue to do your best to promote your Facebook Fan Page content (by means of syndication) and having both interesting and consistent content being added.

When considering the true infancy of Facebook Fan Pages versus websites as a whole, the opportunity to make some great headway in your SEO strategies within your Fan Page is awesome! So whether you haven’t started a Fan Page yet or are putting together another one, please take this information and make some interactive waves!

Thanks for the tips. I didn’t know that profile and group pages weren’t indexed by Google. That’s another reason I can give out in my classes for why agents need a business page.
I also just updated my about box and info tab. I couldn’t figure out any way to get the keywords into the detailed section other than putting it into the Public Transit field, so that’s what I did.
One question…I know you can’t change the URL name once you set it, but can you change the page title. I would like to change mine from Karen Goodman, Arch City Homes to just Arch City Homes…but it doesn’t look like you can do that.
Great article on getting started with a Facebook fan page. the tips are very helpful with how the fan pages work in terms of SEO as compared to personal pages. This as well as other Facebook SEO marketing articles should be a must read for realtors in today’s market.
it’s unbelievable how popular facebook has become for real estate agents. but i’ve also seen quite a few of them use it quit poorly. this should be required reading!
[...] Backlinks, as defined by Wikipedia, are “incoming links to a website or web page (such as a blog, like this one). They go on to say, “Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website” or web page and therefore will bring your page higher up on the search engine rankings. [...]
Thanks for the tips!
Great thanks for the info. I always try and remember that it’s a great idea to have backlinks to the pages that have my backlinks.

It looks like they are finally allowing seasoned pages to changes their names, which is good. I didn’t select very well initially.
The timeline changes are playing out in an interesting fashion as well.
I still see FB moving toward a paid model to get your material seen by fans
