Your Own Personal Cameraman – Swivl Review

A lot is asked of a real estate agent nowadays. Not only do you have to perform the jobs of an entire organization yourself, sometimes you have to be two people at once!

Do you have the type of personality that shines in front of a camera? Do people naturally gravitate towards you in a room? Well, why are you not in front of the camera talking about your listings?

Oh yeah, that’s right…your a one man/woman show.

Here is tool that I think can help you with that.

THE SWIVL

First Impressions

When I received my Swivl in the mail I was highly impressed. The packaging seemed almost Apple-esque. Clean and simple without a lot of text. It felt like I was holding a quality product in my hands.  Setup was a breeze! I inserted the batteries and took a glance at the quick start guide and the device sprang to life when I powered it on. There are only 2 buttons on the base as well as the marker so there doesn’t seem to be a huge learning curve.

Operation

When I first played with the Swivl back in January it impressed me. The goal of this thing is to follow you and do it in such a manner that it looks professional. It did that months ago and it still does it well today on my production model. However, the biggest addition in my opinion is the wireless mic that’s built into the marker! This is a crucial addition for the type of agent who enjoys blogging or getting in front of the camera for their home tours, as quality audio is extremely important.

Is Swivl Worth It?

For the type of agent that enjoys being in front of the camera, this opens up a whole new world of flexibility.  No longer do you have to have someone with you to make a quality recording.  Gadgets are a dime a dozen these days, but this one stands out as truly being useful.

Looks great! Does it move vertically as well?

  2. Steve Pacinelli says:

    Yes it does!

  3. I think you should clean the garage! Just kidding… unless you want to. Thanks for all the great info and staying up on the techy stuff for us!

When you said it only records on an iPhone, did you mean only the audio records on an iPhone or anyone with an android can’t use it at all.

  5. Danny Dietl says:

Cute device, but I can’t see this being worth the spend.

  6. Steve Pacinelli says:

    Just the audio Paul.

  7. Just wondering when I have the device in my hand and I’m finished with my video, and want to go to another room, can you pause or stop from the hand held device or do I have to walk up to the gadget and turn it off myself?

It would be great to have it to pause from the remote and then go into another room and continue on.

Looking forward to hearing from you

    Thanks

    Tina

  8. Steve Pacinelli says:

You can actually start and stop recording from the handheld marker.

  9. Mike Downer says:

Neat idea. Not sure how to make it worth money to me so probably a toy more so than a tool.

  10. Bill Cobb says:

    Thank you, Steve!

I saw their funding video about 2 months ago.

The only challenge 1 will have using it is that you get the best video when your iPhone is turned against you, from the back of the phone. How does 1 know if they’re actually in the video or even centered properly in the video if you can’t see what’s being recorded?

    Does that make any sense?

I know an Agent experiencing the same challenge with their iPad on a tripod and mount. Any solution?

    Thank you, Bill

  11. Steve Pacinelli says:

All I had to worry about was how high or low the camera was. The marker takes care of everything else.

  12. Ricky Beach says:

    Steve,
Have you seen a camera mount used for recording while walking? It has some type of stabilizer that reduces vibration from stepping. Can’t remember where I saw but I’m sure you know what it’s called and who makes it. Thanks.

  13. Steve Pacinelli says:

    Steadicam Smoothee!

  14. Ricky Beach says:

    Awesome!. Thanks Steve.

  15. dale weir says:

Fabulous, it would solve a lot of problems for me

  16. That is cool! I need one of those. Where did you buy it?

  17. Bill Cobb says:

Steve, thank you so much, I just ordered it using the techsavvyagent code and saved $29, $19 off price plus free shipping, normally $10. Bill

  18. Denise says:

Will an itouch work? It is the newest model. Thanks.

  19. Steve Pacinelli says:

Yes! It should work just fine.

  20. Thanks for all great trips. Do you know when the recording feature will work on IPAD? Droid? Any idea?

Your garage looks pretty clean (NOT)

  21. Steve Pacinelli says:

I am not sure when it will work, but if you wanted to use it with the Droid and have the wireless mic work, I was told that you should wait until a new model comes out.

  22. Jay McHugh says:

    Well done…love it…

  23. OK – that’s pretty friggin cool! Is it only SmartPhone compatible or can you mount a camcorder?

  24. I’m jealous – you get to check out all the COOL stuff! :O)

  25. Steve Pacinelli says:

You can mount different devices, but the wireless mic only works with the iOS devices now.

  26. Thanks Steve. Will the Swivl hold an ipad do you know? I got one in the mail but haven’t opened it yet… I am debating on sending it back and waiting until the android audio version comes out. Thanks

  27. Steve Pacinelli says:

They don’t recommend it at Swivl.

  29. I like this gadget. It will make me a star of my own camera.

  30. Cheryl Major says:

Can I use the Steadicam Smoothie with a Kodak Zi8. I know that’s not your fav camera, but I already have it and a terric mic, so would like to add something for stabilization…

  31. Steve Pacinelli says:

I think you can use the Zi8 because they have different attachments, but I am not 100% positive.

What do you think?
