Yes Real Estate Agents, You Can Buy a Mac!

See the new Mac Book Pro in action running Windows and IE as to accommodate many MLS systems that aren’t yet Safari compatible!

I get asked all the time about how a Mac Book Pro works with the MLS and various other real estate programs.  Short answer is that yes you can buy a Mac today and you will be fully compatible with anything you need by leveraging Parallels which runs Windows 7 or XP.  The beauty of the Mac OSX is that it runs anything a PC can, but a PC can’t run anything that a Mac can so “best of both worlds” does come to mind.  If you are a real estate agent considering a Mac for your next purchase don’t fret it is an option and the best one at that!

Hi guys!  I actually went to the local Mac guru about a month ago to ask about running WIN stuff on a Mac. While he said about the same thing you just did here, he also said that because I would still be running Windows, I would still get all the frustrations of it like error messages and system hangs etc.  So, I have decided to stay with the old for now, but don’t rule out a switch down the road. A bonus is being able to use my dinosaur PageMaker program daily.  Thanks for the demo!   – Paula

I LOVE My Mac (MacBook Pro) & now, just recently our MLS (rappatoni) is available in firefox! So there :-P Now, the only thing I use my WMWare Fusion software for is quickbooks. They still do not support Firefox or Safari :(

I’ve used a MAC for years, (for graphics). Now, as a realtor, the MAC works great with everything real estate related except…Top Producer’s contact database system; it’s not compatible with the MAC operating system, (especially the email). I’ve called Top Producer, they said they have no plans to change this. But, they did say, all their other products work with the MAC. So you can build your database, you just can’t contact them. Anyway, I love my MAC, (no viruses, no spyware, etc.) it does everything else, even WINForms, (now, zipForm6)…Bill

  4. Top Producer 8i works dandy in my Mac OS. I rarely use Safari as I find Firefox faster. So far.

Parallels runs my Windows XP just fine so launching non Mac web sites works well. Just make sure your partition is big enough when you set it up.

  5. Maybe I am a MAC snob, but after supporting Windows OS for some major Canadian financial institutions for the last 20 years, I am well aware of the Windows shortfalls. Bloated code, slow response, system hangs, and viruses that require almost daily updates for my virus checker. Switching to the MAC when I retired was like a breath of fresh air. It worked logically, simply, and that was right out of the box. Going into Real Estate has made me realize as well that the MAC hands down is the perfect platform. You have everything you need out of the box to create websites, videos, slide shows, presentations, flyers, all the things Real Estate users need. I am surprised that to this date, MLS still hangs onto the Microsoft Browser instead of picking an OS agnostic browser such as Opera or Firefox. If MLS changed it’s ways, I don’t think there would be a Windows machine left in the real estate world.

  6. I love my MacBook Pro!! Our MLS lets us login via IDS Links Mac Client. It works great except you can’t save anything to your computer.

Great video! As a mac geek in our office I’m always trying to “convert” people, and this video shows just how easy it is to use both Windows and Mac together. Our South Central WI MLS will be up and running shortly on Safari and I can’t wait!

    Hey Chris,

I have been using my MacBook for almost 2 years now with Parallels and it is AMAZING! It’s true, you get the best of both worlds. Like I always say “Once You Go Mac, you never go back!”

I find that my Windows side of the Mac runs faster and smoother on the Mac.

  9. My MLS finally updated their system which is now browser-agnostic so it works perfect on my macbook pro. Now if only RedX had a mac version I could do away with VMWare Fusion…!!!

Do I need to buy Windows 7 to run it with Paralles on my Mac Book Pro and do I Have to install antivirus, etc. software as well ? I’m not that tech savy, but after watching you demo Paralles it looked too good to be true.
    Thanks, Dan Park
